Xperia Play announced

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the first PlayStation smartphone, actually exists and it's going to hit stores next month. This phone/gaming device in my opinion has been expected by the public for a while now thanks to all the pictures and video leaked onto the web, however i am still a little surprised at how much potential the game lineup has.

Hardware: The device will have a 4-inch touchscreen display which when slid up will reveal a full set of typical playstation controls including action buttons, shoulder buttons, a d-pad and 2 touch sensitive analog sticks (which really catches my eye at the moment). The device will also have a 1ghz processor allowing games to run at around 60fps which if is true then this handheld should be a great phone. It will also include a 5.1 megapixel camera with led flash and an expandable microSD slot.

Software: Sony announced that they are working with 20 game publishers to develop over 50 games including titles such as battlefield, assassins creed, dead space aswell as the first multiplayer version of fifa for smartphones.

My opinion. This phone looks great, by using the touch sensitive analog sticks it has allowed them to keep the profile of the phone as small as possible while still cramming all the necessities for any smartphone such as camera, touch screen and a powerful processor while also presenting us with a promising gaming device. What are your thoughts??

  2. Wow, looks sick, I guess they will make more money from games if they put it in the app store.

  3. Holy shit, I don't know how this slipped under my radar but it looks very very sleek and well designed. Any idea if it'll have graphical capabilities of the PSP or maybe even PSP2?

  4. it has only just been officially announced so we are still waiting on many details. I hope that the graphical quality will be better than the psp because its a newer product etc but i highly doubt it will be close to the psp2 after all the psp2 is having a much more powerful cpu etc and is made purely for gaming
